Healthy Liver and Fatty Liver

Fatty liver and its grades

Fat liver means when the amount of fat in the liver increases. We call it fat liver. Fat liver occurs when the amount of fat in the liver increases, that is, when the fat in the liver tissue exceeds 5 percent, then we call it fatty liver.

There are three grades of fatty liver.

  • The first grade, in which the amount of fat in the liver ranges from 5 percent to 35 percent.
  • Second grade, in which the fat content in the liver ranges from 34% to 67%

  • Third grade, in which the fat content in the liver is more than 67%, i.e. if the fat content in the liver is more than 67%, then we call it grade three fatty liver.

Fatty liver grade 1

Grade 1 fatty liver has fat ranging from 5% to 33%. Mostly, there is no swelling in the liver in this grade. To check whether there is swelling or not, we have to get some blood tests done. If there is no swelling in the liver, then it can be brought under control by improving the diet, exercising daily and reducing oil, ghee, sweets, etc. in the food.

Fatty liver grade 2

Grade 2 fatty liver has fat ranging from 33% to 66%. In this also, it is checked whether there is swelling in the liver or not. If there is swelling in the liver, then it becomes a more painful disease. We call it NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) or MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis). If there is inflammation in the liver, there is a chance of fibrosis or cirrhosis. Therefore, medicines are given to treat this inflammation. If there is no inflammation in the liver and the fat is also low, then some medicines work. But if there is also diabetes, cholesterol or hypothyroidism, then medicines are also given to control these diseases. Along with the medicine for inflammation in the liver, medicines for these diseases are also given.

Fatty Liver Grade 3

In grade 3 fatty liver, the percentage of fat becomes very high. More than half of the liver is filled with fat. Due to this fat, the liver starts swelling. This fat causes discomfort in the liver, so it is very important to get it treated. For treatment, the cause of fatty liver is removed and if there is any other disease like diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, high triglyceride, thyroidism or if any medicine is being taken which is not good for the liver, these problems are also cured. Along with this, it is also very important to treat inflammation in the liver. If the inflammation does not reduce, fatty liver will start progressing towards cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is a serious disease, in which the liver starts getting damaged and finally fails.

If you want to avoid fatty liver, then you have to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Exercise daily, include green leafy vegetables like spinach, coarse grains, kidney beans and soy in your diet. Also, do not eat pizza, red meat, fried food, things with added sugar like candy, cookies, soda and fruit juice and most importantly, stay away from alcohol because this is a major root of fatty liver.
